— Dipsy, talking about his hat, Slendytubbies III

Dipsy is a major character of the Slendytubbies series and one of its primary antagonists when infected.

Dipsy was an experiment subject along with his friends — Tinky Winky, Laa-Laa, and Po. He was tested in a futuristic house within a wild surface known as the Main Land and, just like his housemates, was not aware of his situation[2]. One day, Dipsy ate a Tubby Custard together with his friends, but the custard eaten by Tinky Winky caused the latter to have an unusual behaviour at night. After becoming a monster, the latter slaughtered his friends one by one, including Dipsy.

Physical Appearance

Dipsy is similar to his counterpart from the Teletubbies series; he is a humanoid covered in green fur featuring a pointy antenna on the top of his head. His face, including the inside of his large ears, are depicted to have tanned skin. After his death, his disembodied head and body are all stained with blood.

His infected headless body has paler, less bloody fur, and wields a yellow chainsaw. In the second game, it is taller and a little more muscular.

The infection allowed Dipsy's disembodied head to grow a new body[3][4]. Although his design is different in each of his game appearances, Dipsy retains the general design of a tall lizard-like creature with a greyish face, a jaw lined with razor-sharp teeth, and glowing red eyes. More recent depictions of him include pointed growths on his body, particularly his limbs, and a missing screen on his abdomen.

Personality

As seen in the original television series, Dipsy is pictured as stubborn, sarcastic, and mature. Dipsy often wears a cow-skinned hat, his favorite item. He is shown to have a good relationship with Laa-Laa in particular.

In the Slendytubbies series, not much is noted about him. He does display a helpful, yet lazy attitude. Once infected, he does not have any personality traits besides the brutality in the way of murdering his preys.

Appearances

Slendytubbies

Dipsy makes a minor appearance in the very first game, where his remains can be found in the Tubbytronic Superdome. Apart from being an aesthetic presence, he has no effect on the gameplay, but may appear on one pop-up. This role is kept for all his appearances in the following games.

Slendytubbies II

Dipsy returns in Slendytubbies II as a tertiary antagonist. He became a mutant creature like his killer, Tinky Winky, and makes several appearances under two different mutations, especially the taller one nicknamed Lake Dipsy.

He can be encountered in the Lake. Like other threats, Dipsy moves to the custard closest to the player and guards it until the player moves to another custard. From a very large radius, Dipsy will scream and start stalking the player for the rest of the game, at walking speed, unlike other enemies. He will try to bite the protagonist with his jaw if they stand beside him. He also appears in the Training Maze alongside other creatures and, unlike his appearance in the Lake, will spot the player from the same radius as the rest and move at running speed. He is potentially the easiest enemy to avoid, but the darkness of the lake can make him approaching hard to notice, although his glowing eyes can give him away. It is impossible to finish the game without being spotted by Dipsy.

Since Update V1.4, another mutation of Dipsy, headless and equipped with a chainsaw, can be encountered in the Secret Center. He has the same behavior as the other enemies, but will kill the player at physical contact. His chainsaw's loud buzzing sound can help with locating him. He can sense the player if they are on a higher or lower floor than him if close, making him relatively difficult to avoid for the entire game.

Slendytubbies III

It was green and carried a chainsaw. But worse of all it had no head, yet it was still alive.

Dipsy reappears in Slendytubbies III in both Campaign and Multiplayer.

Campaign

Chapter 0 — “It Was Good”

Dipsy is first seen inside the house, waiting for Po to return. By talking to him, Dipsy can talk about his hat, which he lost and has not been able to find since. Once Po has fixed the machine, Dipsy is served in the same way as his friends.

During the late hours, Dipsy will be sleeping, although the player will have the possibility to wake him up, along with Laa-Laa. If woken up, he'll take more time to wake up, and stay at home in case Tinky Winky gets back.

After Po found out Tinky Winky is at the beach, while escaping him, she returns to the house only to witness that Dipsy has been decapitated. He has been murdered off-screen.

Chapter 3 — “Run Away”

Prior to The Guardian's arrival at the Satellite Station, Dipsy's headless body went there and killed several engineers, resulting in an emergency. With the facility apparently devoid of all presence, the Guardian finds a single survivor; Ron. Unfortunately for the latter, the chainsaw-wielding mutant eventually finds and dismembers him.

Once the player has found the Key-card, a brief hallucination of Dipsy, alive, appears before revealing the green teletubby's current infected state. A short chase sequence begins, and the Guardian spontaneously thinks of luring him to the Station's entry, where there is a lethal security system. Dipsy, clearly unresponsive, rushes between the security lasers and dies as a result, allowing the player to retrieve his weapon.

Multiplayer

In the Collect and Versus modes, Dipsy's headless mutation appears in the Custard Facility at dusk and night, while Dipsy's other mutation appears in the Lake.

Like other enemies, Dipsy moves to the custard that is nearest to the player and patrols around until the player moves to another custard. He notices the player either by the latter being in his field of vision, or by close proximity, and start chasing the player until a certain distance separates them. He will try to hit the protagonist if they stand beside him, killing every player within range. Dipsy can be a considerable threat in both forms: his headless body have slow attacks, but the rather cramped nature of some areas can compensate for them, whereas his lake mutation has incredibly fast attacks, but can be outran thanks to the spacious nature of the field.

Dipsy appears in Survival mode as the boss of the Custard Facility at night only, and the Lake, respectively. His headless mutation can use two special abilities named “Fire Toss” and “Fire Blast”, whereas his lake mutation can only use “Water Shot”.

For more detailed information, see his Survival profile.

Dipsy also appears in Sandbox mode as an available enemy or ally, and a playable character.

For more detailed information, see Sandbox.

Slendytubbies 2D

Dipsy is meant to be inside the house, but is unseen. His lake mutation was later introduced with Update V1.5, where can be encountered in the Lake.

Like several other enemies, Lake Dipsy constantly stalks the player from the beginning of the game, but poses no danger as long as he stays away. Invisible, his current position is revealed by the player's flashlight, which forces him to stay still. Once they gets too close, he will start chasing the player until a certain distance separates them.

Slendytubbies: Worlds

In the Collect and Versus modes, Lake Dipsy appears as the danger in the Lake. Like other enemies, he guards nearby custards and notices the player either by the latter being in his field of vision, or by close proximity. He will scream and start chasing the player for a random period of time ranging from a few seconds to about a minute, then teleport to a random custard after giving up the chase, or killing a player. He runs a bit faster than the player, which generally results in certain death.

Lake Dipsy may also appear in Open World mode when the player is exploring the Lake. He moves towards one player and has the ability to teleport to a nearby location. He will execute a physical attack when close, and can use a red-coloured special ability when distant. He disappears after some time.

Lake Dipsy also appears in Sandbox mode as an available enemy, ally, and a playable character.

Trivia

General

  • His name is referring to his antenna — dipstick.
  • Dipsy has his own game — Dipsy’s Workshop.
  • The trailer of Slendytubbies II suggests that Dipsy was perhaps murdered by Tinky Winky using a chainsaw.
  • It was formerly speculated that there were two Dipsys. Ironically, it was later confirmed that the separation of Dipsy's body and head resulted in two separate entities[3][4].
  • It remains unclear how Dipsy's headless body is capable of localizing the player. The infection may have given it the ability to react through proximity.
  • Much like The Guardian, Dipsy has two different mutations which are not consecutive.

Slendytubbies II

  • His lifeless body can be seen in the title screen along with Laa-Laa’s. This is a contrast to Po’s hanged figure which was the only one seen on the first game's selection screen.
  • His headless mutation uses the base model and animations from the “Brute” of FPS Creator. His lake mutation uses the base model and animations from the “Jaws” of FPS Creator — the design is based on the Regenerator from Resident Evil 4.
  • Dipsy can be heard talking in the Lake ambience.
  • Headless Dipsy can instantly kill the player due to the hit-box being on the chainsaw, which is positioned forwards. He still has an attacking animation which consists of him swinging the chainsaw up using his left hand.
  • Lake Dipsy's shriek is a slower version of Po’s scream. It is shared with Laa-Laa.
    • In the Training Maze, Lake Dipsy oddly has the high-pitched shout of a New Born.

Slendytubbies III

  • Lake Dipsy uses the base model and animations from the “AnglerMan” of the Unity Asset Store.
  • Headless Dipsy was probably assigned to the Custard Facility due to the Secret Center being missing at the game's release. Despite the addition of said location with Update V1.28, Dipsy has not been assigned to it.
  • Lake Dipsy has the quickest attacks. This makes him the most dangerous enemy of the entire game.
  • Dipsy is the only one among the four not to mutate in front of the player, with his other mutation being completely absent.
    • He is also the only one to use an item.

Slendytubbies 2D

  • His remains are in fact in the Tubbytronic Superdome but the sprite is under the house itself, so the sprite cannot be seen.
  • Lake Dipsy is one of the enemies added in an update — the others are Tinky Tank, Laa-Laa and Spider Po.
    • His design is intended to be a hybrid of his different designs throughout the series.

Slendytubbies: Worlds

  • Lake Dipsy and Tinky Tank are the only enemies to run faster than the player.
