The machines are creating an army of New Borns. They’re flooding the lands, infecting all life as we speak.

— Noo-noo, Chapter 3.

The New Borns (also written Newborns, formerly called Skintubbies[1]) are a central group of antagonists in the Slendytubbies series.

As the designation suggests, New Borns are teletubbies that are recently created in massive numbers by Creation Machines after the virus has been inserted into the contraptions[4]. Led by the Newborn General[3], they roam in large numbers across the lands and attack all living organisms.

Physical Appearance[]

Like any other teletubby, New Borns are armless humanoids with big round ears as well as a stout, chubby body. They lack most of the features recognisable in teletubbies, including an antenna, a screen-like shape on their abdomen, and fur[2], revealing pale brown skin. Their face and the inside of their ears display a pale epidermal colour with vein forms protruding from their face, implying dehydration. Their eyes are blank, and their mouth is always open.

Personality[]

As infected creatures, New Borns don't seem to have any emotion. Compared to other reborn beings, they are not particularly intelligent, and exhibit an elevated desire for aggression against other organisms.

All the New Borns found away from the reborn army are constantly sobbing. This may refer to how new-born human babies weep after birth.

Appearances[]

Slendytubbies II[]

New Borns make their first appearance in Slendytubbies II. Unlike every other variation of the New Born (except for Phantom Newborns and the Newborn General,) they had arms. A pair of them are found in the Secret Lair, available since the release of the game.

Like other threats, the New Borns moves to the custard that is nearest to the player and guards it until the player moves to another custard. If they are within a specific radius that does not take into account obstacles, they will scream and chase the player for the duration of the game. They will try to hit the protagonist with their arms if they stand beside. In the Training Maze, there is a single New Born alongside other creatures.

Slendytubbies 2D[]

New Borns make a comeback in Slendytubbies 2D. A pair of them appears in the Secret Lair, and a single one is found in the Collect mode of Training Maze.

Like several other enemies, New Borns constantly stalks the player from the beginning of the game. Once they reach a certain radius, they will scream and accelerate as long as the player remains close by. Like the previous game, they emits audible sobs, alerting collectors of their presence.

In the Training Maze, the speed of the New Born running is the same as the player's, requiring the use of turns and walls to get away. In Versus mode, the host of the game plays as a New Born in addition to the one who is already here.

Slendytubbies III[]

New Borns reappear in Slendytubbies III, in both Campaign and Multiplayer.

Campaign[]

Chapter 1 — “A New Day”[]

Three New Borns appears as roaming dangers during the first half of Chapter 1. Once The Guardian obtains the Night Vision Camera from the storage room and moves to exit the Secret Lair, the power goes out and three New Borns suddenly show up. Each one of them walk back and forth along their respective hall.

If the player enters their field of vision, or makes physical contact, the New Born will directly attack, forcing the game to start again from the storage room. To avoid them, the player can crouch down and hide behind a box.

Chapter 3 — “Run Away”[]

As The Guardian proceeds to overtake Noo-noo outside the Satellite Station, the latter informs him about a massive creation of furless creatures, which turns out to be the New Borns.

In the “Good Ending”, a large number of New Borns arrive in the Outskirts and approach the newly-arrived Military. In the “Bad Ending”, the same thing happens, but the reborns directly attack the military. In the other endings, they are only mentioned with no sign of their advancement.

Multiplayer[]

In the Collect and Versus modes, a pair of New Borns appear as threats in the Secret Lair.

Like other enemies, they moves to the custard that is nearest to the player and patrols around until the player moves to another custard. They notice the player either by the latter being in their field of vision, or by close proximity. They will scream and start chasing the player until a certain distance separates them. They will try to hit the protagonist with a headbutt if they stand beside, killing every player within range. They are very significant threats due to the cramped nature of the lair, their number, and their quick attack speed.

Survival[]

For more detailed information, see the List of Survival enemies.

In Survival mode, there are several New Born variants that the players must kill in order to progress through the waves — with each variant having different movement speed and health. They appear in massive groups that constantly move towards the nearest player. If one of them gets close enough to a player, they will attack and deal damage based on the difficulty selected.

Infection[]

In Infection mode, infected players will play as Runner Newborns. Their objective is to kill the Survivors in order to make them become infected in return. They have the capacity to jump very high.

Sandbox[]

For more detailed information, see Sandbox.

All New Born variants appear in Sandbox mode as available enemies, allies, and playable characters.

Slendytubbies: Worlds[]

Newborns are commonly encountered in Open World mode. They roam aimlessly around most areas, excluding the Military Base and the Research Lab. When a player gets close, they'll move towards them until they're far enough apart. The player can also take them down with two punches. Occasionally, an invasion may occur, where New Borns appear in large numbers and run directly towards one of the players.

In the Collect and Versus modes, a Runner Newborn is roaming in Secret Lair, Military Base, and Research Lab. It notices the player either by the latter being in its field of vision, or by close proximity. It will scream and start chasing the player for a random period of time ranging from a few seconds to about a minute. It will then teleport to a random custard after giving up the chase, or killing a player.

Both New Born variants also appear in Sandbox mode as available enemies, allies, and playable characters.

Trivia[]

General

  • Their scream is the same as Tinky Winky, sped up.
  • Their design was inspired by an art piece titled as Teletubbies from Hell made by a DeviantArt user.[5]
    • This same art has also been edited for it be used as a pop-up.
  • They are the first original enemy characters of the Slendytubbies series.
  • Their skin texture seems to be coming from someone's downside finger skin.

Slendytubbies II

  • Their arms are inside of their model, visible when attacking a player. Their arms are also seen in the preview images for Secret Lair and Training Maze.

Slendytubbies III

  • The playable New Borns in Collect and Versus modes have different animations from the New Borns in Campaign and Survival mode. The Runner Newborns from Infection mode exhibit the same property.
  • They were the only enemies to appear in a pair, until the Brute Twins were introduced.
  • Only the regular New Borns are seen during the Campaign. Ranged Newborns and Berserker Newborns have appeared in Slendytubbies 3 Mini-Series: What Comes After.
  • The lack of abdominal screen suggests that the display on their abdomen might be a part of their fur rather than an actual working monitor.

Slendytubbies: Worlds

  • They are the most common enemies in the game.
  • The Runner Newborn can be defeated by the player in Collect and Versus modes.
  • Interestingly, the Runner Newborn in Research Lab constantly tracks the player instead of protecting the custards. This could be an oversight, or intentional.
